Marci Scott, Crisis Reality Training Planning and Training Lead
Marci Scott has spent more than 23 years working in the fields of school safety and emergency preparedness. In addition to working as a risk manager for a school district, she has expansive experience as a program manager for Pierce County Department of Emergency Management where she was responsible for the Mitigation, Preparedness, Training and Exercise and Recovery division. Marci has worked with hundreds of schools; training thousands of staff, students and parents.
Marci received her certification in the Master Exercise Practitioner Program in 2007 from the Emergency Management Institute. She has planned, developed and coordinated hundreds of multi-disciplined exercises ranging from workshops, table tops, to functional and full scale exercises. She has extensive experience in developing relationships across multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional partners and is committed to providing after action and corrective action plans to participating agencies interested in continual improvement in preparedness.
Since 2006, Marci has demonstrated leadership through her diligence towards improving community relationships in preparedness and recovery and has been instrumental in developing and implementing collaborative training and exercise programs involving law enforcement, fire agencies, public and private schools, community colleges and universities, port districts and emergency management agencies.
Marci is credited with developing nationally recognized best practices in school emergency preparedness; a program that has supported schools in bridging gaps related to emergency plan development. Topics and subjects addressed include school lockdown planning and procedures, threat assessment, survival mind set, basic first aid and triage, accountability, and incident command practices for schools as well as in the development of reunification, & evacuation plans, equipment needs and more.
Marci has served on local and national committees related to the advancement and improvement of school safety, as well as in preparing communities in emergency planning, preparation, mitigation and recovery. She was an active member of the Center of Excellence Homeland Security Advisory Committee, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction Safety Advisory Committee, the Association for Standards, Training, and Materials (ASTM), the Northwest Regional Catastrophic Planning Team, and the United States Geological Survey Working Group.
This past year, Marci was selected by the United State Geological Survey - Cascades Volcano Observatory, to participate in a bi-national exchange in Colombia, South America to see first-hand the devastation a catastrophic event can have on a community, region and country. This opportunity has not only enhanced Marcis knowledge and ability to ensure that planning, training and exercise programs are developed to validate efficiencys, she has made it her passion to produce products that can be used to build confidence in others when faced with an unfortunate situation.
